From Jordan: “Fine art prints of the first Rosen Rye distillation in decades, photographed at Stoll and Wolfe Distillery in Lititz, PA are now available. Created for a gallery titled “Uncommon Grain” at the American Whiskey Convention on April 3rd, 2020, the event was to honor the legacy of Master Distiller Dick Stoll. Canceled due to COVID-19, Dick, who left us to join the angel’s share on August 13, 2020, never got to see the exhibit. Photographed on September 3rd and 7th 2019, along with many helping hands, Dick Stoll and Erik Wolfe mashed and distilled 500lbs of revived Rosen Rye for the first time in nearly 50 years, since Dick used the grain at the historic Michter’s Distillery in Schaefferstown, PA.

Invited as a guest to attend the distillation, I decided to photograph the historic event for posterity. On the morning of the mash, as I was about to leave home, I pulled half a dozen rolls of Kodak TRI-X-35mm black and white film out of the freezer to honor the moment in a timeless medium. A select few images taken with a DSLR are noted. You can read more about Dick’s life in this beautiful piece written by Sam Komlenic of Whiskey Advocate on the brilliantly knowledgeable Ethan Smith Blog and in my monthly column in Lancaster County Magazine, Foodographer. A heartfelt thanks to Erik, Avianna, Elaine and Dick for inviting me to join you on this wonderful journey.”
